I have been producing the Jewels of Elul for over two decades. That’s a long time and a ton of inspiration! The Jewels have become a rare constant in my busy schedule and something I look forward to every year. They help me to focus, meet interesting people, and share remarkable stories.

I wrote this as the introduction to the very first Jewels of Elul. The words feel as true today as they did twenty years ago.
I am indebted to the 580 individuals who have contributed Jewels over the years, and I am excited to share introspections from this year’s collection. We are beneficiaries of their generosity, spirit, time, and trust.
I invite you to sit down, take a breath, open up, dive in, and perhaps even find some balance.
