Elul 3 ~ Like Father Like Son ~ Kosha Dillz

My father was good at boxing. He was a fighter in the old country and legend has it that at some point he went to jail in the army for knocking out a sergeant.

His father, my Saba Shimon, was arrested for a debacle with a missing tire. Once they found out he was innocent, they let him go, but they kept him locked up for the tire before they figured it out.

When I got arrested, on the other hand, it was for knocking myself out. The main difference was that my father helped me stand on his shoulders. But then, I got arrested again, and then again, and it got too heavy of a weight to bear. He couldn’t help me if he kept putting me on his shoulders.

It says a lot about a man who visits you and bails you out. Yet after “messing up” multiple times, he takes another chance on you, redistributing the weight of responsibility.

Teaching someone how to get off the ground can make the weight way lighter and change the family history of our future. If my children go to jail, I will make sure that my shoulders are ready for them, if need be, but only once.
