Elul 12: Standing Up ~ Matt Deitsch

What if you grew up in the small suburb of Parkland, Florida, as a normal kid, Hebrew teacher, lifeguard and youth group president with aspirations of being a filmmaker?

What if one-day, loss and risk turned your life upside down? Mine did.

What if we did not have to bury our heroes? Heroes should be able to teach the next generation of heroes, not leave us learning from loss. What if political parties never divided us? What if we came together to confront the problems of today? What if our elected officials stood up for the most vulnerable people?

No one wants more kids to be killed, but through the greed of power and wealth, the elected officials of America leave us with a stained nation.

What if we had morally just leaders? What if we were all able to graduate with no bullet or chain holding you to be less? What if schools were funded more than our prisons? What if we did not just ask these questions, but also found answers? Look beyond the system we have inherited and find that we can build a better future for all of us.

What if we could all have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness regardless of zip code, religion, color or status?
